The steel-wheel plant in Togliatti has expanded its manufacturing base and added larger wheel sizes. The project links additional capacity with a broader product range for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
New lines extend the size range
Interfax reported the launch on July 25, 2024. Investment exceeded 500 million roubles, including a 337 million rouble preferential loan. Annual capacity rose to 3.5 million wheels. Plant director Valery Shiyanov separately described a plan to deliver 1.8 million wheels during 2024; that sales programme is not the same measure as the factory's maximum annual capacity.
Rim production and disc stamping
The Industrial Development Fund's announcement describes an automated rim-making line and a disc-stamping line. The equipment covers diameters from 13 to 19 inches, compared with the earlier 13-to-16-inch range. The plant said it could produce up to one million wheels in its new 16-to-19-inch formats annually. These figures describe overlapping categories and should not be added together as separate total capacities.
What customers need to distinguish
- The plant-wide capacity covers the production base as a whole.
- The larger-format figure concerns a particular part of the range.
- A delivery programme describes intended shipments, rather than the installed equipment limit.
A wider diameter range can make a catalogue relevant to more purchasing requirements, but diameter alone does not establish that a wheel suits a particular vehicle. The buyer still needs the complete product designation and matching requirements. The expansion announcement should therefore be read alongside the manufacturer's product information, not used as a fitment guide.
Separate routes to the customer
The fund described potential deliveries to vehicle manufacturers after the nomination procedure. That is a different commercial stage from making products available to the replacement market. Approval to supply a manufacturer's programme is not implied merely by installing a line capable of producing the required size.
The immediate development is consequently a broader manufacturing capability. The next evidence to follow is how the additional formats enter customer programmes and how actual shipments compare with the company's stated delivery plan, without treating either as a guaranteed utilisation rate.
