Chicago closure and the wider bottling network
Associated Press reported on 30 October that Chicago was the only complete site closure among four bottling locations covered by the company's announcement. Sales, delivery and warehouse operations were to continue at Cincinnati, Harrisburg and Atlanta. The distinction separates the end of bottling activity from the removal of every function at a location.
Company and union statements
The company said it would work with union leadership and maintained that its plans met applicable requirements. The union disputed the notice process; no legal determination is reported here.
In its 28 October report, Associated Press said PepsiCo would continue paying affected workers for 60 days without requiring them to work. The union said that summer negotiations for a new contract had not disclosed a possible closure.
