Lotte's petrochemical complex in Cilegon has reached its formal inauguration after an earlier commercial start. The November ceremony and the October operating milestone belong to the same project, but they should not be presented as the same event.
A formal opening in Banten
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Lotte Chemical Indonesia facility in Cilegon, Banten, on November 6, 2025, according to ANTARA's report. The agency put investment at around US$4 billion and the projected annual ethylene output at one million tonnes.
Commercial operations preceded the ceremony
Lotte Chemical Titan’s November 3 release dates the LINE project’s commercial start to October 15. It describes third-quarter commissioning and excludes the project from that quarter’s group utilisation measure.
Three dates, three different meanings
- Commissioning describes the earlier preparation and testing stage.
- Commercial commencement identifies the company's stated transition into commercial operation.
- Inauguration records the subsequent formal ceremony.
Keeping this sequence intact makes the announcement more useful to business readers. A ceremony date alone cannot determine when production first contributed to a reporting period. Equally, a group-level operating percentage cannot be assigned to a new complex that the disclosure excludes from that measure.
Production scale and customer deliveries
An annual production figure describes scale; it does not establish a completed year of shipments. For a customer comparing supply options, the relevant commercial discussion remains the product specification, available volume and delivery schedule. Those details require a separate agreement and cannot be inferred from an opening announcement.
The same distinction applies to project investment. Capital committed to a complex is not its annual revenue, nor a measure of the price offered to an individual buyer. This update records the opening and the company's disclosed operating sequence without treating those milestones as a sales forecast.
