LEGO opens its second Asian factory in Vietnam

LEGO opens a factory in Binh Duong to serve regional markets. Energy and distribution projects remain on separate schedules.

LEGO has opened a manufacturing site in Binh Duong, Vietnam, extending its regional production network. The opening is a completed milestone; associated energy and distribution plans still have their own timetables.

Production closer to Asian customers

The 9 April 2025 opening adds a second Asian factory and a sixth worldwide. Reuters reported investment of $1 billion and linked the project to LEGO's established approach of locating production near major markets. A regional distribution centre is also planned in Vietnam, with Kuehne+Nagel as operator. Its formal opening is scheduled separately, later in 2025.

Manufacturing and distribution should not be treated as interchangeable capacity. A factory makes products; a distribution centre receives, stores and dispatches them. Opening one does not by itself confirm that every downstream delivery arrangement is fully operational.

Energy milestones remain ahead

In its opening announcement, LEGO set early 2026 as the target for running the factory entirely on renewable energy. The company described rooftop solar generation, an adjacent energy centre with battery storage, and power purchase agreements. That timetable is a plan reported at the opening, not a claim that the target had already been achieved.

Training preceded the opening

A company update published in October 2024 described preparations for hundreds of employees. Training combined work at overseas factories with instruction in Vietnam. Billund contributed moulding expertise; Jiaxing and Kladno supported packing skills. The programme also covered troubleshooting and practical scenarios, rather than only classroom introductions.

This earlier preparation supplies useful context for the opening, but training participation is not a production-volume measure. Neither a ceremony nor a training programme establishes the number of saleable sets produced each week. Likewise, locating a factory nearer customers does not, by itself, quantify a reduction in delivery time or landed cost.
