Kostroma Automotive Components Plant has expanded its piston-pin operation to supply parts for additional diesel-engine families. The announcement reported by Interfax on 17 December 2024 concerns both a wider product range and greater annual capacity. It builds on an existing manufacturing operation rather than describing the opening of an entirely new company.
Investment supports an established production base
The expansion involved more than RUB 195 million of investment, including a RUB 153 million concessional loan from the Industrial Development Fund. The loan forms part of the investment package; it is not a separate sum to be added to the project total.
According to the fund’s announcement, the plant increased annual capacity by almost 40%, to as many as 1.1 million items. It established serial production for KAMAZ P6 engines and additional YaMZ engine applications. The P6 family is used in KAMAZ K5-generation trucks.

A second stage of development
The original piston-pin operation began in 2018. That earlier project involved RUB 432 million of investment, including a RUB 200 million fund loan. These historical amounts belong to a different development stage and should not be presented as spending newly announced in December 2024.
The distinction also helps explain the corporate milestone. Expanding an established process can involve both additional throughput and new component specifications. A higher headline capacity does not mean every product variant can be produced in that quantity simultaneously. Actual output depends on the mix manufactured and the operation of the production programme.
From component capability to engine supply
A supplier expansion is one step within a larger manufacturing chain. Parts must be produced to the specifications of the engine application; the availability of a component is not the same thing as a completed truck. The announced capacity consequently should not be converted directly into a forecast of vehicle output or customer sales.
The December update establishes a manufacturing and financing development. It does not provide a full order book, a utilisation rate or a profit forecast for the expanded operation. Those measures would be needed to assess the subsequent commercial result, alongside evidence of actual shipments.
