Cisco raises AI-order expectations alongside a restructuring plan

Cisco lifted annual AI-order expectations while announcing restructuring; year-to-date orders and quarterly revenue describe different reporting periods.

Cisco's fiscal third-quarter update combines a higher AI-order outlook with a restructuring plan. It is a record of commercial demand and management decisions at different stages, rather than a single measure of realised growth.

Orders and the new annual expectation

Reuters reported on May 13, 2026 that Cisco had taken $5.3 billion in hyperscaler AI-infrastructure orders during the fiscal year to date and raised the annual order expectation to $9 billion from $5 billion. The company also planned to eliminate fewer than 4,000 roles in a restructuring.

The completed quarter remains separate

The official release reports $15.8 billion in revenue for the quarter ended April 25, with diluted earnings per share of $0.85 under GAAP and $1.06 on the adjusted basis. Product orders rose 35%, or 19% excluding hyperscalers.

Three boundaries in the numbers

Those distinctions matter when assessing concentration. A company can have broad product categories while a particular source of incremental orders is concentrated among large customers. The two growth rates help frame that question, but they do not disclose the revenue share or profitability of every individual customer.

A restructuring announcement requires a separate sequence of evidence: the planned change, implementation and any later effect on costs or service. Announced positions cannot be treated as already removed, and an expected future saving cannot be inferred solely from the number of roles involved.

For a customer buying networking equipment, neither aggregate demand nor a staffing announcement answers product-level delivery questions. The purchase agreement and support terms remain the relevant records for the configuration being ordered. For a financial reader, later results can test conversion from orders to recognised revenue without adding the two measures together.
