Cisco raised its annual sales outlook alongside its third-quarter fiscal 2025 results. The announcement brings together three different measures: sales already recognised, incoming orders and expectations for the rest of the year.
A higher annual range
Reuters reported on May 14, 2025 that Cisco lifted its fiscal-year revenue forecast to $56.5–56.7 billion from $56–56.5 billion. Revenue for the quarter ended April 26 was $14.15 billion. Quarterly AI infrastructure orders from webscale customers exceeded $600 million.
The reporting basis matters
The company release gives diluted earnings per share of $0.62 under GAAP and $0.96 on its non-GAAP basis. Product orders rose 20% year on year, or 9% excluding Splunk. These are separate comparisons, not interchangeable descriptions of organic demand.
Reading the ledger
- Revenue records sales within the reporting period; an order can precede delivery and recognition.
- An annual forecast includes an unfinished period. It cannot be added to a quarterly result as another realised sale.
- A comparison that excludes an acquisition answers a narrower question than the group total.
For a customer planning a network purchase, the useful next document is a product-specific quotation with delivery dates and service terms. A company-wide order figure cannot establish that a particular switch is available, that installation capacity has been reserved or that a quoted configuration will meet a workload requirement.
For a financial comparison, keep the reported and adjusted earnings series separate across quarters. Using one basis for the starting period and another for the ending period can create a misleading apparent change. The reconciliation explains which items management removes; it does not make those items disappear from the statutory accounts.
The commercial agreement, rather than the aggregate earnings announcement, is where the buyer can verify those delivery commitments.
